Auroch Digital answers the multiplayer question directly in its FAQ. The Steam product also lists single-player support, and Xbox identifies the same mode. These product-specific sources provide the verified answer for the sequel.
Earlier developer-interview coverage says multiplayer was not currently planned. That statement is consistent with the later storefront and FAQ descriptions. It should be read as the disclosed plan rather than a promise about every possible future update.
Two protagonists do not mean co-op
Malum Caedo and Nyra Veyrath are playable alternatives. The official character announcement describes choosing a protagonist for a campaign playthrough. That makes the character guide a comparison of your available choices rather than a guide to forming a team.
The protagonists have different weapons and abilities. Their inclusion gives a different approach to the same announced single-player campaign. It does not establish split-screen, a second local controller or network play.
Allied soldiers are a different feature
The developer’s September update describes Death Korps of Krieg allies on some planets. Friendly characters appearing in gameplay therefore have a documented single-player context. Their presence is not evidence that another player has joined a cooperative session.
The gameplay overview covers those broader campaign announcements. The Steam guide identifies the current PC product and verified mode listing. Neither source supplies a lobby system or a confirmed multiplayer matchmaking feature.
